This is a co-production of ukiyoe artists representing the late Edo period and the early Meiji period. The characters are mainly drawn by Yoshiiku Ochiai, and the landscape is drawn by Hiroshige Utagawa the 3rd. Both are wonderful paintings, as they are a co-production between the leading disciples of Kuniyoshi Utagawa and the first Hiroshige Utagawa. The Sumida River was a place of relaxation for the people of Edo, where they enjoyed cherry blossoms in the spring and cool evening and fireworks in the summer. As you can see in this picture, many houseboats appeared during the season, and people enjoyed the festive mood. Around Ryogoku Bridge, stalls also opened and were popular. As shown in this picture, Yoshiwara Yukaku sometimes dispatched prostitutes to serve houseboats. The people of Edo created a gorgeous life by devising various ways even in a limited environment.
