The samurai at the end of the Heian period, Kagekiyo Fujiwara, was so strong that he was called “Aku Shivhibyoe Kagekiyo”.
In the battle of Genpei, he was on Heishi side and made Genji fear.
The strength of Kagekiyo has become various legends. In order to clear the grudge of Heishi who had perished, Kagekiyo was aiming for assassination for Yoritomo Minamoto.
When Yoritomo attended the opening eye ceremony of the Great Buddha in Nara, he tried to assassinate but failed.
There are other episodes that broke jail many times.
It is said that Yoritomo saved his life up to two times in spite of Kagekiyo’s heroism, but Kagekiyo did not go down to Genji.
Even in Kabuki, the second generation Danjuro Ichikawa in the middle of the Edo period performed “Akushichibyoe Kagekiyo”, then became a popular performance, and it has been performed until now.
