Ushiwakamaru, who had been training at Kurama Temple in Kyoto, knew he was the legitimate stream of Genji and refused to become a monk.
One day, he decided to defeat Heike, died his father's enemy, and regenerate Genji.
Then, with his mother, Tokiwa Gozen’s introduction, he decided to retreat to Hidehira Fujiwara in Oshu.
Ushiwakamaru held ceremony to be adult and named Yoshitsune Minamoto by himself, when he turned 16 years old, and departed to Oshu.
However, along the way, in the Mino country, the head of the bandits, Chohan Kumasaka, was waiting to take the luggage of Yoshitsune with his party.
Yoshitsune noticed the bandits’s intention, and had been ambushing, with using his sword forged at Kuramayama to brilliantly defeat Chohan Kumasaka and repel the bandits.
Yoshitsune, who succeeded in going to Hidehira Fujiwara, then reunited with elder brother Yoritomo Minamoto impressively, and he defeated the Heike with genius tactics.
This Ukiyoe Art by Yoshitoshi Tsukioka is very wonderful picture with bold composition.
