This is March Ukiyoe Art, by Chikanobu Youshu, depicting Japanese events of each month.
It is not clear when the Hinamatsuri festival began, but it seems that “Hina doll floating” had begun in the Heian period.
Originally, it is said that the custom of purifying the body at the waterside in China was transmitted to Japan.
The custom of decorating Hinamatsuri dolls, like today, began around the Sengoku period, and it seems that more and more dolls are being decorated throughout the Edo period.
At the end of the Edo period, many dolls are now in the form of decoration. The dolls to decorate seem slightly different in the Kanto and Kansai areas.
In the Kanto area, dolls usually have samurai tools.
In the Kansai area, dolls often have royal tools.
It seems that the Hinamatsuri became an event to celebrate girls on March 3rd since the Edo period.
March 3 is a peach blossom season, so it is said to be a peach festival.
