It is a view of people enjoying the riverbed along the Kamo River in Kyoto.
The area centered on Shijo Kawaramachi is currently the number one downtown area in Kyoto.
Yasaka Shrine, west of Kamogawa, was formerly called Gion Shrine, and visitors from the center of Heiankyo, can be seen even from the Heian period.
The area around Gion today seems to have once been overgrown with trees in the precincts of Gionsha.
During the Azuchi-Momoyama period, Izumo-Okuni started the dance that is the prototype of the current Kabuki around here.
The area around Gion gradually became a theater town since the early Edo period.
The riverbed “Kawatoku” along the Kamo River is said to have started around the early Edo period.
The Kawadoko is currently set from May to September, and is one of Kyoto's traditions that can be enjoyed by Kibune and others upstream around Shijo Kawaramachi.
I hope that many people, including tourists from overseas, can quickly return to the situation where they can enjoy the riverbed.
